Hullo! I'm just bored and decided to blog it up a little.
Just having my annual gander at the New Year's Honours List, always interesting to discover who is deemed worthy of meeting the Queen!

I'm very pleased to announce that my beloved fantasy author Terry Pratchett is being knighted! All rise for Sir Terry Pratchett, yay
Chris Hoy is also to be knighted. It's not that he hasn't worked as hard as Pratchett... but I'm in the demographic of people who think that you need to be old to receive a knighthood; I'm not even sure if anyone else is in that demographic. Chris Hoy is of course a national treasure, coining Great Britain a wonderful THREE Gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics! Kudos to him, but he's only 32 and had only held his MBE (awarded to him for one Gold medal in the '04 Olympics) since 2005.
I may sound grumpy or ungrateful or something, don't get me wrong, Chris Hoy is an incredible athlete and deserves his honours... but perhaps in the light of Terry Pratchett, what I'm trying to say (oh so eloquently) is that Terry deserved his knighthood many, many years ago. Yes, that's it. They're both deserving, but Terry has been deserving for longer! PHEW

Okay, other honours:
Peter Jones (Dragon's Den/American Inventor star, entrepreneur extraordinaire!), Robert Plant (you should know he's the singer from the Zep) and Bradley Wiggins (Chris Hoy's teammate) are receiving CBEs. CBE stands for Commander of the British Empire and means holders of CBEs are generally doing awesome things for Britain , they command it bitch!

Rebecca Adlington is getting an OBE. I feel sorry for this woman. Ever since she won her second Gold medal at Beijing, the majority of press about her hasn't actually been how fantastically she did, it's been "Oh gawddd I hope she isn't made a Dame!" (the female equivalent of a knight). Personally, I agree, but no one was saying she should be made a Dame, just because Kelly Holmes was awarded with one in 2005.
